INDUCTION 29 JUNE 2001
Kevin on his way to the induction line.
Kevin passes the "Inductees Only Beyond This Point" sign, and heads into Alumni Hall with the other Plebes-to-be.
Kevin gets his head shaved.
We catch a glimpse of Kevin on the second story of Alumni Hall queuing up for shoe fitting.
Before leaving Alumni Hall and taking a bus to Bancroft Hall (the world's largest dorm, and Kevin's home for the next four years), the plebes line up and get instruction on how to remove, hold and replace their "covers" (hats). This is Kevin's company -- L-22. Those guys in the foreground are called "detailers." They're mostly 2nd-class midshipmen (Juniors at the academy). Detailers are in charge of making midshipmen out of the plebes.
The plebes were told to look straight ahead and minimize the space between them and the plebe in front while walking to the bus.
Kevin gets on the bus.
After a long day of grueling plebe processing, and following an impressive swearing in ceremony in front of Bancroft Hall, the plebes are given a half hour with families and friends. Here's Kevin with his Dad.
Kevin was famished, and wolfed three cookies, two cups of lemonade, a health bar and a "Salvadoran pastry" that his mom brought.
Kevin scarfs a health bar.
Kevin gobbles one of the cookies his A.J. (Aunt Jody) got for him.
Kevin looks great in his uniform.
Kevin's mom says good-bye.
